In Groningen geboren spreekvaardige bibliothecaresse die vanaf 1960 drie jaar woordvoerster maatschappelijk werk was van de KVP in de Eerste Kamer. Aanvankelijk onderwijzeres en later werkzaam in Nederlands-Indië. Na de oorlog, waarin haar echtgenoot in een gevangenenkamp stierf, keerde zij terug naar Nederland en werd zij actief in het katholieke maatschappelijk werk.
