Notes about Arie (Arij) Cozijn

Arie was al vanaf z'n 21e jaar af molenaar van de Zwanburgermolen aan de Leede in Warmond. Een grote stenen moelen met een vlucht van 26,15 meter. De molen werd in 1805 gebouwd door de molenmaker Simon Paddenburg uit Warmond. De naam "Zwanburg" is een verbastering van "Zwanenborch", hetgeen duidt op een verzamelplaats voor zwanen.

Al was Arie wat slomerig van aard en kwam hij wat dictatoriaal over, hij was goed voor Marij, die buitengewoon lief was, zeer kordaat, trots en lief en knap van uiterlijk. Marij was altijd keurig gekleed en bezat vele mooie gouden sieraden. Gekscherend werd Marij hier en daar ook wel "de koningin van Warmend" genoemd.
Met hun twee opgroeiende dochters speelden ze 's avonds vaak het gezelschapsspel tric-trac.

In het jaar 1911 werd er naast de molen een zomerhuisje voor Marij en Arie gebouwd, waar ze veel plezier van hebben gehad. Het had heel wat voeten in de aarde eerdat het zomerhuisje er stond, want als molenaar was je volkomen overgeleverd aan het polderbestuur. Ook met straffen stond men gauw klaar. Een tamelijk veel voorkomend euvel was het slapen terwijl de molen draaide, hetgeen een boete opleverde van ƒ 1,50 en ƒ 3,- boete moest men betalen als men bovendien de deur op slot had gedaan, want dat was gedurende het malen verboden.
Menigmaal werd er een bekeuring gegeven wegens te langzaam malen of te laat beginnen. Ook werd er wel eens een boete opgelegd wegens brutaliteit, maar bij onderzoek bleek dat Arie nimmer een geldelijke straf was opgelegd. Uit de notulen van 17 februari 1909 is wel gebleken, dat zijn maalloon op dat moment ƒ 125,-- per jaar bedroeg en dat hij nog ƒ 40, per jaar kreeg voor het vangen van mollen.
