Ook zijn broer Hendrikus -herkomst naam onbekend- werd "horlogie"maker, en daarnaast kapper en café-houder. Hij trouwde in 1868 in Epe met Bartha Durand uit Epe, dochter van Jannes Gerrits Brouwer Durand en Aartje Terwel. Zij kregen 5 kinderen, waaronder 1 doodgeboren dochtertje en 1 zoon -Jannes Gerrits, genoemd naar de vader van Bartha- die machinist en net als zijn vader en oom horlogemaker werd, maar die al op 25-jarige leeftijd (een jaar na zijn vader) overleed. Verder kregen ze 2 dochters die later trouwden, en 1 zoontje -Derk, de jongste, genoemd naar de vader van Hendrikus- dat als kleuter overleed. Een half jaar na de dood van het jongste kind overleed ook Bartha, de overgebleven 3 kinderen waren toen alle nog minderjarig. Hendrikus zou daarna volgens informele bronnen hertrouwd zijn met Janna van Laar, maar daar zijn verder geen gegevens van.
