Daryl Oltmanns Obituary

PIEDMONT - Daryl Dean Oltmanns, 59, Piedmont, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. Daryl was born Oct. 1, 1950, in Sioux Falls to Fred S. and Elvina C. (Murra) Oltmanns. He grew up on a farm west of Lennox and graduated from Lennox High School. He was in the first graduating class at Mitchell Vo-Tech where he graduated with an electrician's degree. He married Darcy Rogers in 1971 in Davis and to this happy union three children were born. Daryl took over the family farm in 1978 and he farmed until 1998 when they moved to Piedmont. Daryl worked for Pete Lein and Sons as a heavy equipment operator. Daryl was a member of the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and spending time with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Darcy Oltmanns, Piedmont; one son, Sam Oltmanns, Lennox; two daughters, Ann (Dean) Solinsky, Hermosa, and Aly Oltmanns (Seth Buxcel), Gillette, WY; two grandchildren, Drew and Shay Solinsky; his stepmother, Josephine Oltmanns, Lennox; two brothers, Stanley (Shirley) Oltmanns, Sioux Falls, and Kenneth (Mary) Mannes, Freeman; and two sisters, Sharon (Stan) Plucker, Lennox, and Linda Mannes, Carlsbad, CA. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother. A time of public sharing and prayer will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carol Mapa officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Piedmont Cemetery. A memorial donation may be made in Daryl's name to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals.com.
