Notes about Begga Van Landen

Begga stichtte een klooster te Andenne (691) nadat zij in Rome was geweest.
Ze is de patrones, maar niet de stichteres, van de Begijnen, feestdag 17 December. Ze werd heilig verklaard, St. Begga of Rega (Merovingischheilige).

Na overlijden van haar echtgenoot Angisel, trok zij zich terug in de abdij van Nivelles, gesticht door haar moeder Itta met haar zuster Gertrude alseerste abdes, overleden in 660. Zij had een gelofte afgelegd een klooster te stichten en vond de eerste jonge vrouwen die haar wilden volgen teNivelles, met hen bouwde ze het klooster van Andenne waarzij overleed.
