Co werd na het overlijden van ouders ondergebracht bij het gezin Stolk-Huisman in 's-Gravenhage. Dit na tussenkomst van de pastoor uit Stompwijk. Dat echtpaar had nog geen kinderen, maar wilde die wel graag hebben. Later werd het gezin nog groter, aangezien het krijgen van kinderen toch nog mogelijk bleek te zijn! Ondanks dat werd Co als een "eigen" kind en zus beschouwd, waardoor zij op een fijne tijd kon terugkijken, al verloor zij het contact met Stompwijk. Elk jaar bracht zij een bezoek aan haar familie in Stompwijk om zodoende van het reilen en zeilen van de familie op de hoogte te blijven; dit op uitdrukkelijk verzoek van haar pleegouders uit 's-Gravenhage.
