Notes about Gerrit AMERIKA

POLITIE RAPPORT.

Nadat op Dinsdag 8 Juli 1947, aan het Hoofdbureau van Politie te Dordrecht, bekend was geworden, dat in het Diaconessehuis te Dordrecht, een zekere G. Amerika, op Zondag 6 Juli 1947, tengevolge een ongeval was overleden, heb ik, ondergetekende G.A. Verbaan, hoofdagent van Politie te Dordrecht, ingevolge bekomen opdracht een onderzoek ingesteld. Op Dinsdag 8 Juli 1947, heb ik gesproken met een schoondochter van Amerika, genaamd Jannigje Stam, zonder beroep, oud 43 jaar, huisvrouw van Jan Amerika, wonende te Dordrecht, Reeweg (Zuid) No. 5, die verklaarde:
Mijn schoonvader, genaamd Gerrit Amerika, geboren te Veendam, 20 Mei 1867, gewoond hebbende bij mij, is reeds 23 jaar geheel blind. Alhoewel hij blind is, loopt hij toch door heel de woning zonder hulp. Ook ging hij steeds naar boven en hij begaf zich ook alleen in de tuin. Hulp wilde hij in geen geval van een der huisgenoten hebben.
Op Zaterdag 5 Juli 1947, des voormiddags te omstreeks 7.30 uur, zou hij met een schoonzuster van mij, genaamd Sibrije de VRIES, huisvrouw van G.P. Amerika, die enige dagen bij mij logeerde naar de kapper gaan. Hij had zich daarvoor aangekleed, begaf hij zich naar beneden. Hij had toen zijn overjas over zijn arm gehangen. Halverwege de trap schijnt hij te zijn gestruikeld, want plotseling hoorde ik een gil. (Ik was namelijk zelf in de keuken) Ik zag toen dat mijn sch.vader van de trap was gevallen en bewusteloos lag, onder aan de trap in de gang. Met behulp van mijn schoonzuster voornoemd heb ik toen mijn schoonvader in de kamer gelegd en ter stond Dr. Drogendijk (Mijn huisarts) telefonisch met het ongeval in kennis gesteld. Toen Dr. Drogendijk verscheen, was mijn schoonvader nog bewusteloos, en dr. Drogendijk kon niet met juisheid vaststellen, wat voor letsel mijn schoonvader had bekomen. Hij achtte overbrenging naar een Ziekenhuis noodzakelijk. Hij is toen overgebracht naar het Diaconessehuis te Dordrecht. Voor dat hij echter werd overgebracht, naar het Diaconessehuis, kwam hij wederom bij kennis en ook in het Ziekenhuis in hij steeds bij kennis gebleven. Zelf klaagde hij over zijn benen en armen, dat hij die niet meer gebruiken en hij deelde mij nog mede, dat hij halverwege de trap, daarvan was afgevallen. Hoe dit is gebeurd, kon hij mij niet zeggen. Op Zondag 6 Juli 1947, te circa 16 uur, tijdens het bezoekuur, is hij overleden.
Volgens verklaring van het personeel van het Diaconessehuis te Dordrecht, zijn er door omstandigheden nog geen (geen) foto's va het lijk genomen, daar deze eerst Dinsdag 8 Juli 1947, zouden worden genomen en waarvan nog geen uitslag is bekend. Amerika is echter overleden aan en ruggemergfractuur, bekomen tengevolge vorenstaande val van de trap.
