Sir William Booth, Knt, who, being then only three years old, was in ward to King Henry VIII.   He received the honour of knighthood in 1578.   Sir William Booth m Elizabeth (d 1628), dau of Sir John Warburton, of Warburton Hall and Arley Hall, Cheshire (see BLG 1969, Egerton-Warburton of Grafton Hall, formerly of Warburton, & BP 2003, Ashbrook, V), and had issue,

3a  Edmund, educ University Coll, Oxford, barrister-at-law 1598, and dsp.
4a  John, m Anne, dau of ----- Prestwich, of Hulme, near Manchester, d 1644, and had issue.

6a  Peter, b 1576, and d 7 Sep 1576.
7a  Richard, b 1578, m  -----, dau of ----- Massey, of Cogshall, Cheshire, and d 1628, having had issue,

Sir William d 28 Nov 1579, and was survived by his eldest son, Sir George Booth, 1st Bt, whose extensive estates were placed by Queen Elizabeth I, during his minority, under the guardianship of her favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester.   He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth towards the end of her reign, and was created a baronet by King James I on 22 May 1611.   Sir George Booth m 1stly 18 Feb 1577, his 2nd cousin, Jane, only dau and heiress of John Carrington, of Carrington.   By her he had no issue, nor did he live long with her, yet he inherited the lands of her father; the same being strictly so settled by that gentleman, before the marriage of his dau, to descend to the family of Booth; in which settlement, among other provisions, is one particularly worthy of notice:  "that if she, the said Jane, should, after marriage, be detected of incontinency, the estate should remain to the family of Booth".   After the decease of this lady, Sir George m Catherine, dau of Sir Edmund Anderson, Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, and had issue,

"Sir William [13] Booth (George [12], George [11], William [10], George [9], William [8], Robert [7], John [6], Thomas [5], John [4], Thomas [3], William [2], Adam [1]), of Dunham, Knight, son of Sir George Booth, was but three old when his father died, and therefore, was in ward to the King.  He married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Warburton, of Airley, Cheshire, Knight.  He became Sheriff of Chester 1571 and was knighted 1578, and died September 1579 in his 39th year. He was buried at Bowden.  His wife died December 1628.  They had seven sons and six daughters."
