Ariën Dekker wordt op 17 mei 1878 in Twisk geboren, op 20 mei 1920 trouwt hij met Theodora Maria Melting, op 19 februari 1921 wordt hun zoon Klaas geboren. In 1930 verhuist het gezin naar de Kostverlorenweg 18 in Amstelveen. Ariën Dekker verdient de kost door met een bakfiets langs de deur te gaan om kippen en boter te verkopen. Zoon Klaas werkt bij de Fokkerfabriek en maakt in de oorlog deel uit van een CPN-verzetsgroep. In 1942 wordt die groep opgerold. Klaas heeft spullen zoals verzetslectuur en wapens verstopt op de zolder van zijn ouderlijk huis, waar hij zelf ook nog woont. Als op 21 maart 1942 de SD de woning binnenvalt om Klaas te arresteren, duikt deze door een raam naar buiten en verdwijnt. Vader Ariën wordt als gijzelaar door de SD meegenomen en komt via Amersfoort in Kamp Vught terecht. Ariën Dekker lijdt aan astmatische bronchitis en verzwakt al snel. Tegen een medegevangene vertelt Ariën dat hij de vlucht van zoon Klaas als een mooie stunt ziet en zegt: “Ik kan beter gaan dan hij.” Op 18 maart 1943 sterft Ariën Dekker in Kamp Vught, zoon Klaas blijft gedurende de oorlog ondergedoken in Amsterdam.
