Notes about Simon Mantel

Op 7-jarige leeftijd is de moeder van Simon (en zijn pas geboren jongste zusje) overleden. Zijn vader is nooit hertrouwd. Waarschijnlijk is Simon vanaf deze jonge leeftijd al betrokken geweest bij het onderhouden van het gezin en het opvoedenvan zijn 2 zussen. Voor de Nationale Militie is Simon in 1887 ingeschreven voor de lichting van 1888. Hij kreeg nummer 28 toegekend, maar werd uit hoofde van het feit dat hij de enige zoon in de familie was vrijgesteld van de dienstplicht.
Vanuit Enkhuizen is deze timmerman verhuisd naar Gelderland, waar hij o.a. woonde in Doorwerth, Renkum, Wageningen, Bennekom en 's-Heerenberg. Hij trouwde 2 keer en zijn beide echtgenotes zijn overleden in 's-Heerenberg. Na het overlijden van zijn tweede vrouw is Simon verhuisd naar Rotterdam. Hier is hij in een periode van 10 jaar ongeveer 15 keer verhuisd.
Uiteindelijk is Simon op 88 jarige leeftijd in rusthuis Vredeheim te Rockanje overleden.
