Notes about Egbert Nijland

Broer Jan Nijland, koopman en spekslager, koopt op 7 juli 1862 van Hermannus Koeleman, grondeigenaar, een huis met erf en pakhuis, oostelijk van de straat (Langstraat) in Wijhe om een zeepziederij te beginnen. Na zijn dood in 1865 zet Egbert Nijland het bedrijf van zijn broer voort. Hij koopt in 1877 van jonkvrouwe van Suchtelen van den Haere, ten zuiden van het dorp in de Enk enige huizen, bouw- en weiland, samen ongeveer 460 are voor mogelijke uitbreiding van het familiebedrijf. Als mede eigenaren worden op de koopacte de volgende namen vermeld: Phillipus Zalsman, uitgever te Zwolle (getrouwd met dochter Lamberta Mathilde), Wilhelm Adolf Lauffs, predikant te Nordhorn (getrouwd met dochter Woltera Wagterina), Azarja Daniëlle Nijland (dochter) en Willem Gerrit Nijland (zoon), koopman en zeepfabrikant. In 1921 heeft Gradus Hunink het bedrijf gekocht en omgebouwd tot een vleesfwarenfabriek. Egbert en zijn vrouw zijn ook nauw betrokken bij de oprichting van een Gereformeerde Gemeente, ondere andere door een gebouw in de Enk ter beschikking te stellen waar diensten gehouden kunnen worden. Later is dit gebouw door de kerk ook gekocht.
