Albertus Ellens, age 89, of McBain went to his eternal home November 26, 2015. "And I dwell in the house of the Lord forever". Psalm 23:6b
Albertus was born June 28, 1926 in McBain to Sieste and Sena (Bolt) Ellens. He married Wilma (Karsten) Ellens on August 1, 1947 at the McBain Christian Reformed Church. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2014.
Albertus was the youngest of 14 children and lived on the family homestead all his life. He was a retired farmer and was active in Church activities and the Northern Christian school board.
He will be remembered by his children and grandchildren, Lois Ellens of McBain, Elaine and Tom Vlietstra (Jason and Elizabeth Vlietstra and Ryan Vlietstra) of Jenison, Ron and Barb Ellens (Erica, Brent, Todd and Kourtney Ellens) of Zeeland, Cal and Deb Ellens (Jessica and Trevor Eising, Brandon Ellens, Joe and Tara Cruson and Tiffany and Dan Kotecki) of Marion, Kenny and Gwyn Ellens (Jayce, McKenna and Trey) of Allendale, Sheryl and Doug DeBoer (Steven and Sarah) of Surrey, B.C. ; former daughter in-law, Sharon Ellens; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Sena Helms; sister and brother in-laws Harry Devries, Herm and Shirley Geers, John and Betty Addink, Bob and Norma Karsten, Mel and Ellen Karsten, Mary and Chuck Roedema, and Cal Overman; and many nieces and nephews.
Albertus was preceded in death by his loving and caring wife Wilma; his parents Sieste and Sena Elllens; several siblings and their spouses and several in-laws.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1 at the Lucas Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Todd Kuperus officiating, with burial at Mount View Cemetery. Visitation will Monday from 4-8:00 p.m at Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain. Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Christian School or the Fabry Foundation. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Curry House for the great care they provided Albertus.
