Een tijdlang versonderstelde ik dat deze zoon vernoemd is naar koning Willem III omdat zijn grootmoeder Maria Josepha van den Born een buitenechtelijke relatie met hem zou hebben gehad. Dit wordt elders op internet ook aangegeven.
Door een email van Petra Veenswijk kwam ik echter achter het gebruik om de zevende in een ononderbroken reeks zonen te noemen naar de koning. Mogelijk is de koning zelfs peetvader (hoewel in dit geval hiervan niets is gebleken).
Wat dan de reden is dat zijn oudste broer Martinus Antonius diens 3e zoon eveneens naar de koning vernoemt is onduidelijk, of het moest zijn dat deze Willem al in 1893 op vijfjarige leeftijd overlijdt en er daarom een neefje naar hem genoemd wordt.

Helaas geeft http://www.pateo.nl/HTML/PD/NL/Gorilla_s_bastaarden.pdf opnieuw een voorbeeld van hoe snel fouten op internet worden vermenigvuldigd: de meneer of mevrouw heeft (zonder bronvermelding of toestemming) de buitenechtelijke kinderen van Maria Josepha van den Born toegeschreven aan Willem III en hun nageslacht integraal uit mijn publicatie overgenomen.
