From "Family Connections," Wilson Daily Times, Wilson, NC, October 2001Henry and Sue Powell:"The first solid evidence of our local Hinnant family comes from the land records in Edgecombe County in 1752 when John Hinnant was granted 177 acres on Mockson Creek in Edgecombe County-now Nash. He soon bought 50 acres and more later on the South side of Contentnea Creek in Johnston County now on Buckhorn Reservoir."
