Bridget Ann Williams
(1) ± 1703
She is married to (1) John Rasbury about 1703.
Bridget is an Irish name, which indicates that her ancestors may have been from Ireland, but no evidence has been found. Bridget was the daughter of John Browne, as evidenced by the will/administration record of John Browne where she is mentioned as "daughter Bridgett Wresbury" (phonetic spelling for Rasbury). She was the grandaughter of John Williams, as evidenced by his will of 1691/92. Also, Bridget is named as the wife of John Rasberry in the deed records of Chowan County North Carolina and of Isle of Wight Virginia (see notes for John Rasbury). (Ref: Wills and Administrations of Isle of Wight County Virginia by Blanche A Chapman; Abstracts of Deeds Colonial Bertie County North Carolina by Mary B Bell)
23 Jan 1718, John and Bridget Rasberry sold 200 acres on the west side of the Chowan River. This deed showed Bridget having dower rights in the property, possibly indicating a previous marriage. Howeever, the will of her grandfather in Isle of Wight County has Bridget inhering land.
Because of several Chowan County deed documents connecting John and Bridgit Rasberry to a John Williams, it seems likely that members of the Williams family came to Chowan County from Virginia and several deed documents have Williams men as either neighbors or witnesses for John Rasberry.
