Notes by Job Benton

Date of marriage and dates of children are approximate. Per Dan Blanton.
Is has not been proven that Job is the father of Isaac.
I do not think that Celia b 1800 and the later born unnamed son b. 1821 are the children of Job Benton and Hannah Lynch.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #0397, Date of Import: Sep 1, 1998]Job Benton: Determination of BirthdateCensus Information:Current evidence indicates that Job Benton was born somewhere between the years of 1751 and 1754. This birthdate is in agreement with both federalcensus information and available poll tax inofomation. The 1830 census, where he is listed as Jobe Benton Sr., gives us the bestpicture of his birthdate when it cites his age as being in the 70 to 90 yearrange. This places his birth between the years of 1751 and 1760. The 1810census shows him in the 46 to 100 year age group. This translates to a birthbetween the years of 1710 and 1764. Thus this census does not further restrictthe birthdate obtained from the 1830 census. In the 1800 census, he isalso listed in the 46 to 100 year age range, giving a birth between theyears of 1700 and 1754. While this does not impact the lower estimateof his birthdate, it does further restrict the higher estimate, reducing tofrom the year 1760 to 1754. A similar examination of the 1790 census recordsreveals that it does not further restrict Job's birthdate. Thus, by taking the highest low date and the lowest high date, we obtain themost accurate estimate of the period in which Job Benton was born. indicatesPoll Tax(1772):The final piece of information that is useful in determining Job's birth date ishis poll tax record where he was taxed in St. Phillips Parish in 1772. Priorto 1784, free white males 16 years of age and older were subject to the Polltax. This tells us that Job would have to have been 16 years of age, or older,in 1772 since he is listed as having paid this tax. This would place his birthprior to the year 1756 which agrees with the estimate we calculated from thefederal census data.Children:Available census records tell us that Job had two daughters and four sonsas follows:Son:Francis-----The oldest son, born 1765/1783Source: 1790 CensusSon:Arthur------Born about 1771/1784Source: 1790 CensusSon:Unknown-----Born about 1781/1790Source: 1790 CensusDaughter:Unknown-----Born about 1784/1789 {This daughter has been identified
as Ann Benton See child 4}Source: 1790 Census Daughter:Unknown-----Born about 1799/1800Source: 1790 CensusSon:Unknown-----Born about 1821/1825 Src: 1830 CensusSource: 1830 CensusThe three sons are listed in the 1790 census. We know from a later deed,Brunswick County deed book J, pages 24 and 25, that two of these sons wereArthur Benton Sr and Francis Benton. The identity of both daughters and thefourth son remain unknown. He is shown with 1 daughter in 1790, and againin 1800 where she is listed in the 11-16 agre range. This would place herbirth between 1784 and 1789. The 1810 census shows her in the 17-26 rangewhich does not further restrict her birth date range. This daughter isidentified by a deed from Job Benton to Job Stephens dated July 13, 1825, inwhich he deeds 75 acres to his grandson, the son of Ann Benton Stephens. The second daughter was born about 1800. She is listed in the 11-16 age range in1810, but did not appear in the 1800 census. Her identity has yet to bedetermined.Misc Records and Notes:1772 Paid Poll Tax in St. Phillips Parish, Brunsiwck County NC.1774 In Brunswick County Militia, called out to apprehend run away slaves.1782 Dec..Appointed to March 1783 term of court.
