Notes by William Boswell Sr.

William was born between 1760 and 1770 in Bladen Co. NC. He died in 1838. He was apparently the most prosperous of the brothers, having accumulated several hundred acres of land. His wife is unknown, but he had 9 children.

FROM "THE PEOPLE OF COLUMBUS", Vol 1 "A Study of the 800 Families in Columbus County, N. C. in 1850"WILLIAM BOSWELL, probably William Sr., is shown as the defendant in a summons for Elijah Elkins and John Barefoot to be witnesses on Boswell's behalf in a document dated 01 January 1835. This document is a part of the Keeter Papers now in the Columbus County Archives.In the February term of Columbus County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Boswell was the defendant in action brought by the State on an unknown charge. He pleaded not guilty and was tried by a jury and found not guilty.
