    Tussen 1812 en 1860 zijn achtereenvolgens drie generaties Prins burgemeester van de gemeente Ede en een van de rechtsvoorgangers.
    Theodorus Prins is de enige die zich burgemeester (maire) van de gemeente Bennekom heeft kunnen noemen. Hij was voor die tijd zijn vader opgevolgd als ontvanger van de verponding (een zoort onroerende zaak belasting) voor het ambt Ede.
    Tijdens de bezetting van ons land door de Fransen werd na 1810 het toenmalige canton Ede verdeeld in vier afzonderlijke eenheden. In de maire Bennekom, overeenkomende met de oude kerspelindeling, werd Theodorus als maire aangesteld. In die tijd telde Bennekom slechts zo'n 800 inwoners. Uit beschikbare gegevens blijkt Prins niet al te Fransgezind. Dit zal de nodige tact hebben gekost in een tijd van inkwartieringen en verplichte leveranties aan de bezetter. De bevolking van Bennekom was zeer zrm, zelfs als armlastig te bestempelen.
    In 1812 behoort hij tot de zeshonderd hoogst aangeslagenen in Gelderland en heeft een aanzienlijk grondbezit in Bennekom. Hij is samen met zijn zwager Nicolaas Pannekoek eigenaar van de windkorenmolen te Wageningen. In 1817 werd besloten de vier afzonderlijke bestuursgebieden weer samen te voegen. Zo ontstond vanaf 1 januari 1818 weer de gemeente Ede.
    Theoddorus Prins was Hervormd en wer 9-4-1773 aangenomen als lidmaat.
