John fought for Edward IV at the battles of Barnet and Tewkesbury and was knighted by him. In 1482 he was made a knight banneret by Richard of Gloucester, and when Richard became king, John was made a Knight of the Body. Despite this, he joined the side of Henry Tudor before the battle of Bosworth.
