== Biography ==
Adapted from Geni.com profile:
Jacques was baptised 18 Dec 1644( maybe 1646) at The Calvinist Temple, in LaRochelle, Charente-Maritime, Aunis, France.
Jacques, like his father, was a ''habitant'' of New France. See [[Wikipedia:Habitants
Habitants]] for a good overview of what life as a ''habitant'' was all about. Some interesting details there include the fact that these ''habitants'' were subsistence farmers who grew enough to feed their families and little for an open market that did not really exist (because everyone else in the area was a farmer doing the same thing). By 1851, an estimated 70% of the Quebec population were farmers. (That, compared to Massachusetts at 13% and New York at 25%.)
---------------------------------------------
He received his Confirmation from Mgr. LAVAL on 1 May 1662.
"Our ancestor Jacques and his wife had a family of 18 children, including 2 sets of twins. Like his father before him, he was a farmer and carpenter. He built two wings of the General Hospital of the Augustine Sisters in 1711. Lucky #13 was his son Charles." -- from Judi Montgomery
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacques & Elizabeth Isabelle were a Huguenot family. There seem to be 2 different marriage dates and 3 different locations, the second date being 16 Oct 1666. There are no locations listed, but are probably Quebec City, Notre Dame de Quebec. It may be that one date is when the "banns" of marriage were announced at church before the marriage date, or, since there was pressure in New France back then for Protestants to convert to Catholicism and Jacques' family did so, who can say whether they just gave lip service to their new faith while secretly still observing their original religious convictions. If this were true, they may have had a 2nd ''Protestant'' marriage following the Catholic service.It's hard to say if they wholly endorse Catholicism.
