Kathryn Jansonius Hesselink, better known as "Aunt Kate" was the youngestgirl of the ten children born to John and Margaret Nymeyer Jansonius. Shewas the last of the children to marry, having lived with her folks priorto their marriage. She moved to town with her folks in 1918, and afterher father died lived with her mother until her marriage in 1924. Sheworked at home and possibly worked in the homes of other people. She didnot get her teaching certificate like her sister, Bertha, Ipina, and Ida.
John Hesselink was born in Holland, MI. the son of Garret and Mary DeWittHesselink. The Hesselinks came over to America in 1847 from theNetherlands, not with (Van Raalte). They came thru New Orleans. John'sfather was a soldier in the Civil War and he also did surveying for thecity of Holland, Mi.
John Hesselink came to the Austinville area to visit with relatives andthere was introduced to Kathryn Jansonius by John Limburg. John Limburgalways said it cost John Hesselink a new hat because of the introductionand subsequent marriage.
John and Kathryn farmed all their married life on a small farm justoutside the city of Holland, MI. There are many pictures of Kate on thetractor or wagon and John with a hoe in his hand or on a load of hay.
