Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann AT yahoo.com, doesn't believe thatDernell/Darnell, etc. exists (his post-em is below). I did have her nameas "Canmor", which I agree is out of place, but many others have thepedigree, some saying her name is "Dunkeld" instead of "Canmor". JudithLauver, Bruce Ruesch, Kirk Larsen, & Charles Dohogne (all of WorldConnect) even name her mother (mistress of Alexander II) as IsabelCountess of Atholl. Unfortunately I have been, so far, only found aprinted source (CP) that verifies the pedigree up to their son Robert.
Curt's post-em:
"Canmor" is a serious red flag that this is probably fictitious. It wasan appellation (not a given or surname) given to Alexander II's ggg gfMalcolm III. Canmor, Ceanmore, Ceann Mor, Ceann Moir: (Begin Quote) whichis customarily translated as 'Bighead'. Only one historian has suggestedthat 'head' in this context bears the same meaning as in 'headman', sothat Ceann Mor ought to be translated as 'Great Chief'. This suggestionappears to have the merit of inherent probability. (End Quote) [Ref: TheKings and Queens of Scotland]
It is hardly likely that Máel Coluim mac Donnchada 'Ceann Moir' (MalcolmIII's) illegit gggg grand DAUGHTER would be given his MASCULINEappellation of "Big Head" or "Great Chief". Canmore is not like"Plantagenet" in that there are no other descendants of Malcolm who usedit or were assigned it by later historians/genealogists to my knowledge.
This is likely someone's attempt at trying to tie into Scots royals thruan invented "illegitimate child via an unknown mistress" - a standard(unprovable/disprovable) ploy. "It was hushed up so contemporary recordsdon't/won't show it" is the modus operandi of charlatans. Without aprimary source, this must be considered fabulous.
Consider also, there are those who put red herrings in there onlinedatabase just to see who is copying from them & publishing it withoutaccreditation. Sounds crazy, but... perhaps you should contact your(unaccredited) source for this... unless of course it's YOUR red herring;>)
Regards,
Curt
