Arms:Ar.on a chief Gu. three cinquefoils of the first
these billet arms are quartered by drake and displayed at the Chute House of Mr Poole and in his book.
the unusual thing is both the Drake arms and the Billet arms apear to be the same ?
"Arg on a chief Gul. 3 Cinquefoils of the 1st  Q. by Drake,Ar. on a chief Gu 3 Cinquefoils Ar" this appears in the Joseph Holland Collection of Arms page 108

in another source is given the drake arms: Arg, a wyvern wings displayed and tail noired Gu.
still another source has the Drake arms Argent a wyvern gules. this is from visitation of Devon p 93.
the latter seems to be the original arms.  When the arms were quartered by Drake it seems strange that the "Wyvern" was omited and replaced by 3 Cinquefoils in the history of Woodsford

In the history of Woodsford, a John Billet apparently the father of this John at time of Edw 11 recovered 10 a. of land with appurtenances in Wyrdesford Belet, which was claimed by one Richard de Portes but found to belong to the Billett family.
The billett or belet family had held much of this property in Werdeford from the time of William Belet named in the Domesday book as a thane of of the king and remained in the family for many generations with Ralph Belet being the last one mentioned Henry 111 abt 1264.

With the material we now have I feel this John is probably the son of John Billet, son of Ralph,son of Ralph Bigot and Margery Lady Marham, who married Sir William Belet. ; The Manor Marham passed from Margret Marham to her son Ralph then to Walter brother of John Bellot Chief Lord Marham while the title of Lord went to John, Walter apparently got Manor Marham according to Hist. of Marham.  This linage is presented here.  The surname is shown in brackets, the official name shown on deeds and arms has been Bellot.

Visitation Devon p 94

The account of Drake of Otterton states-Manor of Ashe in parish of Musberry, accrued to the drake family thru the union of Christine Billet and John Drake and eventually became the place of their designation, although their more usual residence was at Mount Drake, a mansion built by them in the same parish.
