In early manhood he came to Fonda with his mother and two sisters, to the farm of his uncle, Simon S. Veeder. of the Sand Flats, and followed farming for several years. He then entered the employ of the New-
York Central railroad and was for many years in hs service, at first being
talesman at the local freight house and later yard master in this village. Later he was employed by Hasbrouck & Co., hay dealers, in New York and remained in their employ at Fonda as hay buyer for thirty-five years. Subsequently he was transferred by the same company to Illinois for a number of years. On account of failing health Mr. Veeder returned to his home in Fonda, pursuing the same kind of business until ill health obliged him to retire.
Ho married Miss Mary Montanye, of Charleston. Mr. Veeder Is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. George A. Taylor, a son, George Veeder, of this village, and one sister, Mrs. Matilda Bauder, of Glendine, Montana.
Mr. Veeder was a great lover of the woods and was one of the best hunters and fishermen in the Mohawk valley. He always took his vacation in tho spring, fishing, and in the fall, bunting in the Adirondacks. Mr. Veeder won by his genial, affable disposition a host of friends, who will greatly mourn his death.
