WILLIAM BREWSTER PARKINSON
William Brewster Parkinson died at his residence yesterday in the 74th year of his age, after a long and painful illness, the result of a complication of diseases. He was one of Brooklyn's oldest and best known citizens and one who played an important part in the early struggles of the then little town. He had lived here since 1845 and was for years prominent in the social and commercial life of the city. He was an active member of that famous organization, "Hose No. 1", which did such good work in the days of the old Volunteer Fire Department and which had its headquarters in High street, near Fulton, when the present borough was little more than a village. Mr. Parkinson was one of Brooklyn's earliest dry goods merchants and most of the Long Island trade was for years controlled from his store in Main street. In 1850 he married Rebecca Moon, the daughter of Henry B. Moon, and niece of the Rev. Stephen Meeker, and on November 6, 1900, they celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Parkinson leaves two daughters, Mrs. Francis Roberts Roome and Mrs. William Moarn, who with their husbands, reside in this borough. The funeral services will be held at the late residence of the deceased, 458 Lafayette avenue, tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock.
Parkinson, W. B., 458 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, age 73, date of death Jan. 26, 1902
