Bio notes: Ann Buckley was born on 27 August 1819 at Parramatta, the sixth child of convicts James and Mary Buckley and their first child born in Australia, just 9½ months after the couple were re-united following the arrival of James in the Colony in November the previous year.
They must all have been living together as a family, so Anne would have had a fairly normal childhood for the time, except that as a toddler she would have accompanied her convict mother to her work at the Female Factory.
She would have been about 7 years old when both James and Mary were granted their Certificates of Freedom and about 12 when they all went to the Windsor area to live.
In 1829, she and her friend Elizabeth, both 10, accompanied her mother to the Parramatta races. The girls were enticed away into the bushes by Thomas Ashton. He detained them overnight while he indecently assaulted Ann and raped Elizabeth.
Ann died on 8 November 1905 at the house of one of her grandsons in Tumut NSW
