The following is taken from George Fleming Budd's diary, courtesy of Geoffrey Colin Budd Oct 2005: 1851 May "My father took me to the Great Exhibition, Hyde Park." 1874 "Mrs Trussell (Sarah Twydell Chamberlain) went back to Pirton by the 9.40 am train, via Luton, taking our Georgey with her. 15th October. They arrived at Luton by slow train at 12-40 pm when John (Trussell) met them & drove them to Pirton." " I left Messrs. Kinder´s employ October 30. & we gave up the house 69 Gartree St. & finally left Leicester for Pirton by the 9.40 am train via Bedford for Henlow station where John Trussell met us with the cart & drove us to Pirton." "Charlie & Harrie Budd (my twin sons) were born 31 October." "Susan took unwell directly we started but would persist in going on. John met us at Henlow and drove us to Pirton. I went off to Hitchin for Dr Shillitoe at once & Charlie was born at 5 pm & Harrie at 5.30 pm." " I finished up & left Kinder´s October 30th. We packed all our furniture & warehoused it at the Royal Arms, the public house next door to us in Gartree St., Leicester." "Harrie Budd (my twin son) died at Pirton 12 December." " Born on 31st October. He was only 6 weeks old. Buried in St Mary´s church yard, Pirton. He died at 2.30 pm., I being up in London (Battersea out of work at the time)." Charlie died at Renhold 3rd August 1944 (written in another hand - possibly Thomas William Budd´s writing)" Based on the above quote, it appears that John Trussell met George and Susan at Henlow station and took them fairly rapidly to some place in Pirton when Susan was already in labour. I think it is most likely that it was to his home at Dove House. Therefore it seems likely that the twins were born there. Harrie was buried in Pirton churchyard, and Charlie was buried in Renhold churchyard (Bedfordshire I believe, see quote above), having died on 31st July, 1944. George Fleming Budd was an outstanding draughtsman and designer of coaches in England during the 19th Century. Before his election to the "Worshipful Company of Coach and Coach Harness Makers" and associated bodies in Paris and New York. He gained eight silver medals (1st prize) and seven first class certificates together with innumerable payments for journalistic articles on technical matters of the trade. Unfortunately, further progress was halted by rheumatoid arthritis which led to his death at the age of 56.
