Aan het einde van de achttiende eeuw vestigde Antonius Wijten zich in Halsteren. Zijn voorgeslacht is te vinden in Brecht in België, zijn nakomelingen bleven voornamelijk in West-Brabant wonen. Eén familielid emigreerde in 1959 met zijn gezin naar Australië waar de naam in Wyten veranderde.
